Abstract: This project intends to continue the work carried out in Portugal Nuts, reinforcing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, specifically in their capacity to produce, process and market Portuguese nuts now not only in the NUTS II region of the North and in low-density areas, but across the country. "Portugal NUTS - Training" does exactly what its name implies: based on previous experience and acquired knowledge, it aims to empower entrepreneurs, businesses and the creation of investments that can take advantage of traditional cultures and know-how to significantly increase the value in Portugal for the exploitation of these products.

Abstract: This project aims at the use of some vegetable by-products as substitutes for some food chemicals. This project is still being evaluated. The participation of the CNCFS in the "Valor Natural" project is of extreme importance for the Dry Fruits sector, as it will allow the improvement of the efficiency in the use of natural resources, namely the chestnut flower, through the reuse of the by-products of the crops. This project has a strong component of innovation in the production of tradable goods, which will increase the capacity to generate value added from the residues / by-products of a crop, which at the moment are of no use, thus increasing the creation of job.

Abstract: The objective of the NUTRICEROL project is to promote innovation in high consumption products: bakery, pastry and pasta using processed extracts obtained from by-products generated by the wine, cereals, olive and nut industries, strategic sectors for the SUDOE region . There is evidence that indicates an inverse correlation between the intake of foods rich in phenolic compounds and the prevention of certain diseases (cardiovascular, diabetes, etc.). The consumer is increasingly concerned about the relationship between food and health, hence the interest of the food industry in offering products rich in these compounds. This industry annually generates large amounts of by-products, excellent source of bioactive nutraceuticals. The transformation of low-cost waste into functional ingredients has, beyond obvious economic advantages, undoubted environmental benefits. The participation of the CNCFS in this project, important for the line of the Dry Fruits, will allow the improvement of the efficiency in the use of the by-products of the chestnut tree.

Abstract: This project aims to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies, specifically in their ability to produce, process and market dried fruit from Portugal, especially in the NUTS II region of the North and in low-density areas.
The project, called "Portugal Nuts", consists in carrying out actions to identify and sensitize the critical factors of competitiveness, accomplished through a wide and detailed set of studies on the production and processing of nuts, through information actions on the supply of products both in Portugal and in international markets, promoting practices of cooperation and competition among SME’s in promoting business consolidation, promoting initiatives that will enhance information, positioning and market in strategic areas for growth sustained and competitive.
The project aims to enable the region to increase the production of nuts, to increase the percentage of product that is processed and to improve marketing, promoting producers' organizations, processors and traders to be more entrepreneurial and based on good practices and still with forms of business definition (companies by quotas or anonymous) more competitive and evolved than today. The project also enables municipalities in the region (in the low-density territories of the North) to be able to support promoters and potential promoters more efficiently by creating a network that can truly foster the entrepreneurship of this region with regard to nuts and processed fruit.

Abstract: Biosave is a project that aims to control some diseases and key pests of the olive tree and the chestnut tree, participating the CNCFS in the tasks related to the chestnut tree, namely the fight against the chestnut wasp, with resources the means of biological and biotechnical struggle and the disease of the ink.
Overall, this project aims to develop and implement sustainable strategies and agricultural practices that can be used by farmers to protect olive and nut crops. Functional biodiversity occurring in olive groves and groves (activity 1) will be studied considering an increasing gradient of soil management, irrigation and landscape heterogeneity. Soil arthropods and parasitoids from two important pests, namely the olive fly, which is the key pest of the crop and the chestnut wasp, will be identified (using morphological and ecological approaches , through the application of functional characteristics). In activity 2, biotechnical methods will be used against target pests and parameters such as efficacy and effects on non-target arthropods will be evaluated. Biodiversity recorded in treated versus untreated plants will be compared as well as the rate of attack of the target pests. The diseases will also be addressed in this project and in activity 3, will be carried out the detection and identification, using molecular methods, of Phytophthora specimens that infect chestnut trees. In activity 4 will be studied the influence of the nutritional status of plants, in particular nitrogen and calcium levels in the olive leaf, in the severity of the infection caused by peacock-eye.
